Laika Test Project
I was approached by Power Vacuum music to create and direct another music video for their next release Amish Boy - Laika Test Project.
This was a non profit project, meaning I had complete creative freedom to create everything in this video from concept to style.
After listening to the track a few times, and researching about Laika, the first test dog sent into space by Russia, I quickly came up with a narrative and style I wanted to explore.
The music was very playful, and seemed a good place to inject some humour into the video.
Laika Test Project Music Video
Duties & Responsibilities
Skills - Creating an original concept with a totally open brief.
Exploration in to realtime analogue video processes, such as video feedback using VDMX to create endless procedural patterns.
When making a music video there is a lot of time to fill, and this allowed me to create evolving visuals that would keep the viewer interested, rather than just using looping footage.
C4D was used to projection map the buildings onto rudimentary geometry.
Illustrator was used to create the broken Russian ‘knock off’ style Mac OS interface. Finally a reaction diffusion algorithm was built by myself in after effects for a treatment, alongside Retro Dither.
Green Screen footage was sourced from Youtube.
Software - VDMX, Cinema 4D, After Effects, Trapcode Particular, Photoshop, Reaction Diffusion, Retro Dither
